Appears that the Giants bought into his long-range projections.
Here is a link to his college profile. He hit .363/.444/.624/1.068 with 13 HR in 237 AB (remember, power does not usually translate to pros or majors, I've learned to my dismay). Not sure how tough his conference is for baseball, I'm not that into college ball. He also stole 18 bases in 23 attempts. 33 walks and only 32 strikeouts, so pretty good bat control. I guess the Giants scouts saw more in that than Baseball America's sources.
