First off, Indians because we beat them in 1954 in bad fashion in World Series. Plus they haven't won since. (Unfortunately, they lost already)
Second off, Tigers because we beat them last year in bad fashion in World Series. Plus they haven't won in a long time too, plus their city just went bankrupt, so they could use some good playoff joy, good luck to them for beating the A's, now they need to get by the Red Sox.
Third, Pirates because we have no real history with them that I can recall, plus we signed away Barry Bonds from them, and they have not made the playoffs since then. (Unfortunately, they lost already)
Fourth, Rays because we have no real history with them, though their city almost stole our team 20 years ago, but bygones, as they did us, ultimately, two huge favors: first, they chose to draft Longoria, which ultimately led to Lincecum falling to us (even though reportedly they had a contract already worked out with Lincecum, they couldn't pass up on Longoria) and second, they chose to draft Tim Beckham, which ultimately led to Posey falling to us (even though he would have been a natural, being a Florida State star player). Who knows, if they had instead drafted Lincecum and Posey, they could be the ones with two championships (or more?) right now. And they haven't won anything yet and I factor that in as well. (Unfortunately, they lost already)
Fifth, Reds because we beat them last year even though they had us down to elimination. However, they ripped us off in the George Foster trade, so there is some bad history there. But like the Rays, bygones, as that was looong ago, and we did beat them last year, and they haven't won anything in like 20 years. But they lost already, so moot point.
Sixth, Red Sox because we have no real history with them that I can recall. But they have already won a World Series not that long ago, plus they have huge revenues driving their franchise, so I don't want them to buy their way in either.
Seventh, Braves is where there is some bad blood remaining. 1993 still sticks in my craw, especially since I felt it was given to them by the Padres when they gave away McGriff without taking even one of their very top prospects (they did get a fair number, but all lower guys). And they did steal Hank Aaron away from us (our teams were the last two bidders). But, we have beaten them in the playoffs in 2002 and 2010, so much of that is repaid, plus while they have been winning, they haven't won it all in a long time, so there is that, but that one is hard to let go of, 1993. They lost already, and I would have been OK with a win because of who they played and lost to, the team 10th on this list, much, much lower...
Eighth, the Cards are up there in rivalry for Giants fans. From the Cepeda trade to losing the NLCS to them when Maldonaldo attempted that sliding catch and let the Giants chances of making the World Series slide with him, to all the fights we have had with them, like some Ozzie and Will the Thrill Thrilla in Manila bout, and I think it was with them that Krukow hurt his arm fighting and that cost us starts, the Cards has been a thorn in the Giants side for a long while. They even made an offer to Scutaro last off-season, trying to steal him away from us with a big two year offer, forcing the Giants to pony up for the three year deal that Marco was looking for. We did beat them in 2002 and 2012, but that's just the down payment, they got the rest of the mortgage to pay, though if they beat the 10th team, I would consider that a payment in kind.
Ninth, the A's are way up there in rivalry for Giants fans, from the way they carpetbagged themselves into the San Francisco Bay Area without paying a cent to the Giants, to their putting a huge billboard ad at the Bay Bridge pointing out how many championships they got and how we didn't have any, to their steroid stealing of the 1989 Earthquake World Series from us (somehow they are Teflon to any repercussions for being point zero, as it was their McGwire's feats that reportedly caused Bonds to juice up), to their crying about not being able to move to San Jose, when they know that all they have to do is pay the Giants a huge sum of money (and Wolff's got it, he's been pulling in around $20M in free cash flow each year he has owned the A's, so that's like $160-200M now, and that money is basically the money the Giants pay into Revenue Sharing and the money they get from Revenue Sharing, so he would just be returning our money back to us) that would help cover some of our big signings, to their fans who constantly grate on me (I could not purely enjoy getting to see the first World Championship trophy, there was an A's fan behind me bragging loudly in his tattered A's jacket about how the A's have three of them at the Coliseum - and I was pretty sure, and then I checked, yep, they should have four of them, what a maroon, as Bugs would say - and why that nice family invited him along, they were very polite despite his braying, I couldn't figure it out, though maybe he's their crazy uncle, once removed). And talking about Teflon, Beane has never done much that any of us couldn't do if we were given a losing franchise with Top 10 picks galore to pick from, plus he has made two horrendous trades, basically losing both Ethier AND CarGon for nothing - NOTHING - much, two prospects who in the NEXT SEASON after the trade busted out and became stars. GMs have been fired for less, hard for most teams to accept that two players most teams would build around for years are traded away, only to get almost nothing in return, yet nobody ever mentions it anywhere, well, except for me. :^) It would be THE worse if they ended up playing the next team in the World Series, because then I would be forced to root for them. But it's OK, they lost, so no need to worry about that scenario now.
Tenth, the Bridegrooms have a permanent entry as last in this list any year they are in it, and heck, any year they are not on it either, they are evil, 'Nuff Said. BEAT LA!!!
