Looking at the list linked above, there were not as many draftees who got some prospect hound love, at least like last season, in the 11-20 round picks, other than maybe Kevin Rivera and Benton Moss. Maybe it would be different if I went back and looked at the actual names and such, as I'm only talking intial impression right now, my memory could be slipping. Like last year, there were a lot of higher BA ranked prospects drafted much later (similarly for Scout ranked by Kiley).
But there seemed to be a lot more interesting HS players drafted in the 30's than last year, seems like the Giants in the new CBA, with all the new draft rules, like to draft HS players who they most likely won't sign, but probably will spent any overage they do have, on one draftee, like Riley last season. Names that got my attention include Hunter Williams, Tim Susnara, Mitch Hart, and Benito Santiago.
This post is mainly here for me to share articles I find on the various picks who are not getting covered by a post, as I've done already for Beede and Garcia.
The blog Giants Potential has a number of links to a variety of the picks: https://sfgiantpotential.squarespace.com/home/2014/6/10/2014-san-francisco-giants-draft-overview
ReplyDeleteAnd he points out that Cove Chatter had a great rundown of all the picks, please go there for good info on each of the picks:

This has a good article on Stetson Woods: http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9048
ReplyDeleteThat was a good article on Woods
DeleteArticles on Hart and Webb, who have played together in the NorCal area:

THere was also a good one with the two of them which I could not find again, if I find it I'll post it here.
Of course, I find it just after saving this comment:

According to this article, a Chris Mathewson is pitching for Kaiser in Fontana, that would be pretty fun if the Giants were to draft him at some point, just for the name: http://www.calhisports.com/2014/05/21/state-stat-stars-of-the-week-59/
ReplyDeleteNice links OGC. I haven't seen many signings yet, but we do have Skyler Ewing and Richard Amion playing rookie ball!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting pretty excited about this Sam Coonrod character, seems like a very live arm, head on his shoulders. He did sign. Slot. Here's a nice read: http://dailyegyptian.com/coonrods-potential-keeps-going-up/

He reminds me of Joe Nathan more than his stated favorite player: Brian Wilson. Looks like a solid pick at the 5 spot.
Thanks Shankbone for the news and links.
DeleteAs Shankbone noted above, a couple of signings, here are the latest signings that I'm aware of, from MLB.com:
ReplyDeleteRD
5 - Samuel Coonrod for slot, $330,000
6 - Skyler Ewing for slot, $247,000
7 - Seth Harrison for under slot, $110,000 (makes $75,200 available)
10- Matthew Gage for slot, $138,200 (surprising because he's a college senior and expected to sign for low 5 digits, typically; means less money to try to get one of the 30's rounders HS long shot signings). Max can give to any one late rounder is roughly $472K, much like last season's signing of Riley.
I think the top tier signings have been delayed because Beede has been busy with his College World Series winning Vanderbilt team.
Also, Baseball America lists some other signings as well (no $):
DeleteRD
11 - Greg Brady RHP
12 - Jameson Henning SS
13 - Luis Lacen OF
14 - Kevin Rivera 2B
17 - Caleb Smith LHP (good enough to have scouting link)
19 - Richard Amion OF (confirms Shankbone's reporting)
33 - Jared Deacon C (Cal State Fullerton)
Also, Coonrod is RHP, Ewing is 1B, Harrison is OF, and Gage is LHP.
Other later rounders with BA scouting links include:
RD
26 - Hunter Cole 3B
34 - Tim Susnara C
35 - Mitch Hart RHP
38 - Benito Santiago, Jr. C
BA does not confirm Harrison's deal size at the moment.
Got some more signings, from Shankbone: http://www.yougottalikethesekids.com/2014/07/draft-tracking.html
ReplyDeleteAnd most were confirmed by Perfect Games: http://www.perfectgame.org/draft/signings.aspx?y=2014
I'm going with one of the commenters on Shankbones, I think the slightly over slots are just including college money:
#2 Aramis Garcia: signed for slot, $1,066,900
#3 Dylan Davis: signed for slot, $622,300
#4 Logan Webb: signed for $600,000 (slot $440,600) but if his number is inflated by college money (a strong possibility since most numbers reported so far appears to be also inflated by college money), he could also have been signed for slot as well, he's a HS senior
#8 Austin Slater: signed for $200K (slot $158,400). Again, could be inflated by college money, Stanford is higher costing school.
#9 Stetson Woods: signed for $175K (slot $148,000). And again...
Plus, that puts into question all the over slots, and could push the money available above $500K that the Giants could use to sign a HS student in the back of the draft, much like how they signed Riley last year.
