Baseball America noted, or rather tweeted, over the past week that many deals have already been done, but that Selig and MLB are holding up the overslot deals, releasing/approving them slowly over time, essentially as a punishment to teams for willingly signing over slot, as he has no authority to punish teams for going over slot, other than to do this.
Gary Brown, our first round pick, was the 24th overall, and the slot last season was $1.242M. Jarrett Parker, our second round pick, was the 74th pick overall, and the slot last season was $492,300.
The last that I heard in terms of most over slot signings was just over $100K, so our draftees appear to want more the $1.35M and $600K, respectively, and counting....

ReplyDelete6th round pick Kendrick Perkins signed for $800K, which is over $650K over the $150K max for picks after the 5th round.
Does not necessarily mean that any of our holdouts will get $650K over the slot, the Giants could always hold firm on not going that far over slot for either Brown or Parker, their agents might be trying to leverage the Giants (particularly Boras) by waiting until the last minute in hopes of getting more.
Then again, Brown and Colon do seem interchangeable, on the whole, so Boras could be fighting for a similar contract for Brown as Colon won.
If you look through the recent signings at the link above, you will see that the MLB dam is starting to crack, which makes sense since the deadline, I believe is about a week away now.
