Heck, if Crawford is hitting well in AA, he might even get a shot. But, in any case, Uribe will be part of the mix there, if Renteria is out, I think.

I think for one or two starts, Bochy would be OK with Lewis in CF. I don't see Torres making the team, he was lucky last year with his hitting, and the bench space will be tight with Ishikawa in there taking a spot. I consider there to be one spot to be battled over, I expect Whiteside, Ishikawa, Uribe, and Lewis to hold a bench spot, barring a meltdown like Wilson had a few years back. Despite having an option left, I just think the Giants is got to be at the point where they fish or cut bait with Frandsen, and play him to see what he can do. Plus, Frandsen provides flexibility across the infield plus could be serviceable in LF, while Torres main plus is playing all the OF, but Lewis can do that too (though not as good, admittedly, but he hits a whole lot better). Plus, Torres probably won't be claimed if he's cut, and they can tuck him in AAA until they really need him.

I think Bowker might be attractive, because of his power, but he's viewed as a possible starter whereas the Giants seem to peg Frandsen as a backup. And this role is for a backup. Plus, again, the flexibility that Frandsen provides, particularly at 2B, 3B, and SS, where only Uribe is backing up those spots, though DeRosa could move there in a pinch, so it is not a gimme for Frandsen.obsessivegiantscompulsivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11362706004246875823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23735245.post-27406636980801600732010-03-05T15:19:56.559-08:002010-03-05T15:19:56.559-08:00No way Renteria is on a short leash. He's not...No way Renteria is on a short leash. He's not getting released as long as Uribe is the alternative. Uribe would make Deivi Cruz look like a gold glover out there!DrBGiantsfanhttp://www.whenthegiantscometotown.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23735245.post-72269205430378434512010-03-05T10:41:34.567-08:002010-03-05T10:41:34.567-08:00Good summary of the injury situation.
Torres will...Good summary of the injury situation.

Torres will probably make the team, I think, in part because Bochy believes that no else can back-up Rowand in CF although Schierholtz played CF for the Olympic team. It would not be as though Schierholtz would play there all the time, just a few games to give Rowand a rest. But we're talking Bochy here, so we'll see.

Between Bowker and Frandsen making the cut, Bowker seems more attractive. Frandsen, however, does deserve a shot---with another team where he he doesn't have the baggage he has with Sabean. I doubt he'll be anything more than a reserve anywhere as his does have stellar defense and some hitting potential but not enough to merit a starting job.

As for Renteria, one can only hope. However, he is probably on a short leash and a potential release candidate. With Uribe on the roster, the pressure is on Renteria to produce and show a bit more passion on defense.

Potentially, we could be looking at:

OF:

CF Rowand
RF Schierholtz
LF Bowker

INF:
2B DeRosa
SS Uribe
1B Huff
3B Panda
C Bengie

or combination of 2B Frandsen, SS Renteria, LF Velez (who really should be in the minors as you stated).

Much of what the final roster will look like depends on performances.

On a different note: it's still early but Neal is showing a lot of promise.DProfessorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13585959977253146856noreply@blogger.com
